As I watched students rehearse in the parking lot at Azle High School under the July sun on the first day of band camp, I wasn’t just covering a story; I was reliving it.
The sense of nostalgia instantly hit me, and I found myself remembering my days in band. What began as a story assignment became a reminder of how much those rehearsals, performances and especially the friendships shaped my high school experience.
My journey with band began with a flute in the sixth grade at Hoover Elementary. Band was a blur until I got to high school. I remember my first day of band camp as a freshman member of the Marching Green Pride and feeling intimidated. But the members of my section were quick to welcome me with open arms.
