Pelican Bay will soon join the unofficial small-town club after officials gave the green light Aug. 11 for the final plat of a new Dollar General at 1350 Sandy Beach Road.

Connor McMurrain, director of development for RUPE Companies based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, said his company is proposing a 10,640-square-foot “prototypical Dollar General.”

“It is not a market store for now,” McMurrain said. “It will have the capability to be transitioned to a market store in the future — we put all the infrastructure and utility aspects to do that if Dollar General decides — but for the time being, it’s just a standard Dollar General.”
