Property values may be declining around Azle Independent School District, but trustees are working to keep one number from rising: the district’s tax rate.

In a unanimous vote Aug. 17, trustees adopted a total tax rate of $1.085 per $100 valuation for the 2026-27 fiscal year — the same rate adopted by the district last year.

While Azle ISD has been able to lower its tax rate each year since 2020-21, Chief Financial Officer Summer Mathis said that trend came to an end this year due to a 3% decrease in freeze-adjusted property values across the district. These values account for homestead exemptions and frozen school property taxes for those who are over 65 or disabled.
