Hornet quarterback Auston Morgan throws for two touchdowns against Weatherford Sept. 4.

The Azle Hornets battled Weatherford into the second half Friday, Sept. 4, but the Kangaroos pulled away for a 28-14 win at Hornet Field.

Azle entered the game with a 1-0 record after last week’s 28-24 win over Abilene Cooper. This week, the Hornets came up short, falling to 1-1 after Weatherford scored three times in the second half.

Led by junior quarterback Auston Morgan and sophomore running back Mason Dixon, the Hornets mounted a gritty fourth-quarter drive that cut the deficit to one score before Weatherford answered with the final touchdown.
