Ballfield spectators at Shady Grove Park will have to spend a bit more time in the sun after the Azle City Council declined to award a bid for the ballfield awning project Sept. 1.
Last November, council members were informed that the fiscal year 2025-26 budget allocated $92,500 to install shade structures over 15 picnic tables at the Shady Grove beach and $182,000 for shade covers over six bleachers in ball fields No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.
Although installation of shade structures over all the beach-area picnic tables was completed in March, officials still had to seek bids for six 12-by-32-foot steel structures with metal roofing for the ballfields.
