The Azle ISD Weekend Backpack Meals program is a partnership between Azle ISD and the Community Caring Center that provides healthy, easy-to-prepare foods and snacks for students facing food insecurity on weekends.
During the early years of the program, officers with the Azle Police Department dropped off the meals at campuses. For the past few years, the vendor that supplied the meals also delivered them to campuses. This school year, that delivery service is no longer available.
“This year we're ordering in larger quantities to save on shipping fees, and they're coming directly here to the caring center. Then our team of volunteers will pack up the orders per campus and have them ready,” CCC Executive Director Kristie Cooper told The Azle News.
