Members of the Rotary Club of Azle got an inside look at the Azle High School football program when head coach Wilson Rigg spoke at the club’s weekly meeting Sept. 10. Azle ISD athletic director Michael Sain introduced Rigg to Rotarians, reminding them Rigg was hired in January and has been working through the spring and summer. He noted that being a head football coach is a round-the-clock job.
“But coach has done a wonderful job. He's brought in some great coaches that are not only great coaches, but they're also great teachers, and they've been serving our kids. I've been incredibly impressed with the product that they put on the field, but that's only part of it,” Sain said.
Rigg gave Rotarians an update on what’s been going on in the football program since he spoke to them in April. He said the program went through summer strength and conditioning beginning at 6:15 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Training, which included agility training, lasted two to 2 1/2 hours, Rigg said. Rigg said the football program follows a rolling schedule, with football activities beginning as early as March and continuing throughout the year.
