A former captain with the now-defunct Briar Volunteer Fire Department pleaded guilty to a single count of sexual exploitation of a child and was sentenced Sept. 29 to serve 327 months in a federal penitentiary.

Travis Reed, who was already in custody in Federal Medical Center Fort Worth, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Fort Worth Division for sentencing related to the guilty plea. Judge Terry Means handed down the sentence of 327 months — about 27 years and three months — and recommended Reed serve his time in FCI Seagoville.

The sentencing document requires that Reed will be placed on lifetime supervised release upon completion of the sentence and provides for a $100 special assessment.
