It’s not every day you can sit in the driver’s seat of a fire truck and play golf with a marshmallow, but both activities were part of this year’s revamped National Night Out in Azle.

The event — held from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 6 at The FeedLot — not only featured a new time and location, but also a new format. With less emphasis on traditional children’s activities such as face painting, National Night Out shifted toward a more educational approach, giving first responders the opportunity to interact directly with children and families.

“Overall, I think the event went well this year,” Azle Police Department Sgt. Loren Lyon told The Azle News. “It seemed like the educational format did work about as well as I imagined.”
