Stop and smell the lilies!

As a freshman at Auburn University, I set out to be a chemical engineer. I loved math and science, so I reasoned it was a good fit for me. I was especially intrigued by the fundamental building blocks of matter and energy.

After two enjoyable years of study, I changed majors only because I did not see my future as one where I would be in a lab. I still marvel at the laws that govern creation.

Related to my appreciation of the infinitesimal but critical components in our world is the saying, “Stop and smell the roses.” This encouragement asks us to pause in the middle of a fluid life, plant our feet, take in the moment and notice the little details of something wondrous right before us.
