For Son Shine Ministries Director David Shaffer, and many other Azleites, the first Thursday in May is one of the most special days of the year.

On May 1, the National Day of Prayer will once again be celebrated at the Orchard Event Venue in Azle. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. but organizers recommend arriving early to get good seats and enjoy the entire program. The ceremony is scheduled to conclude at 1 p.m.

“This annual gathering, hosted by the Azle Area Ministerial Alliance, is approachable, unifying and fun,” Shaffer, who is the event’s chairman, said in an email to The Azle News. “Attendees are invited to a midday event featuring a great meal, music, speaker and a time of prayer led by community leaders. The entire event is free for everyone! I loved the flow of last year’s event, so this year will be quite similar.”
