Joe Lieb: Flying high

Azle resident, military veteran speaks about service and upcoming Honor Flight

Azle resident and former U.S. Air Force mechanic Joe Lieb, 85, has helped others fly his whole life. This weekend he and dozens of other veterans will see the favor returned.

Lieb has been selected to travel to the nation’s capital for a May 4 Honor Flight. Twice a year, the national program organized by a network of nonprofits puts military vets on a plane to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials and be recognized for their service. Lieb, who has lived in Azle for the past 20 years, applied for the Honor Flight program nearly three years ago after learning about it at a veteran’s luncheon at Spring Creek Baptist Church near Weatherford.
