Tuesday, May 6 was a special night for many at Azle High School. The Top 10 academic graduating AHS seniors and the Top 10 students chosen by faculty were treated to a lavish dinner at the Petroleum Club in Fort Worth. During the evening’s ceremonies, students had a chance to each thank a special teacher who made a lasting impact on their lives.
Through laughter and sometimes tears, students, teachers, families and administrators reflected on their time together and enjoyed one another’s company 40 stories above downtown Fort Worth. Azle ISD Superintendent Todd Smith has attended many of these events year after year, and says the students always manage to demonstrate the heartfelt and genuine connections made between students and educators.
“Everything you heard there was about the relationships and the way that special teacher made them feel,” Smith said. “And again, you’ve got the best of the best in academics. It was never about the way you taught me that math for me or … it was more about how they made them feel and the relationships that they have.”
