Students from Azle High School’s Criminal Justice Club were recognized by the Azle Independent School District board of trustees for their achievements during the state Texas Public Safety Association competition. The group’s advisor, forensics teacher Katherine Cruz, presented the students’ success to trustees during an April school board meeting.

“I am proud to serve as the Azle Criminal Justice Club advisor, and it’s been a privilege to mentor and guide these outstanding students,” Cruz said. “Our return wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support and dedication from some of our professionals here in the community.”

Cruz named Azle ISD police officers Kidd and Kotara, 323rd Family District Court Associate Judge Lee Sorrells, Tarrant County crime scene lead investigator Christine Lawler, retired K-9 deputy Jeff Cruz and former student TPSA state competitor Ryan Iglesias as all playing crucial roles in helping teach and provide resources for the crime-fighting cadre. She said the knowledge and encouragement of these individuals shaped these students’ success.
