Azle resident Joe Lieb said he was given the royal treatment during a unique trip to the nation’s capital. Lieb was among 42 veterans who left Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for Honor Flight 58 May 2.
Twice a year, the national program, organized by a network of nonprofits, puts military vets on a plane to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials and be recognized for their service. Upon landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Lieb said passengers were treated to a display from a local fire department. From that moment on, every minute was catered to honoring the veterans.
“Everything stopped in the airport for 20 minutes,” Lieb said. “We were in the limelight, and everything was done to keep us happy.”
