A Fort Worth Vietnam Veterans Memorial is one year closer to fruition and Azle’s Silver Dollar Classics Car Club has helped play a major role. Each year the club puts on a car show fundraiser at Eagle Mountain Marina for Vietnam Veterans Day in March. Money was raised through registration fees, sponsorships and drawings. The biggest donors to the event were the insurance company Better Life, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Eagle Mountain Marina.

The cause: since 2020 the Tarrant County Vietnam Memorial Foundation is working on building the first monument honoring soldiers and veterans of the Vietnam War on this side of the metroplex. While the project has only recently begun to pick up more steam, officials and foundation members have been discussing the concept for over a decade.

By the time of SDCCC’s May 13 meeting at Moe’s Country Kitchen, the TCVMF had raised approximately $68,000 of the $350,000 it needs. Damon Harvey, treasurer of the Tarrant County Vietnam Memorial Foundation, says he is deeply grateful for the club’s support each year and was present to receive the check.
