Follow the Flag fireworks show canceled due to rain
Despite inclement weather, some attendees still turned out in full patriotic garb to celebrate Independence Day. ZACH FREEMAN | THE AZLE NEWS

Friday night’s Follow the Flag celebration did not go as planned after unexpected rainstorms put a damper on the event’s live music and pyrotechnics. Storms caused flooding and other issues throughout Texas on the afternoon of July 4.

The display planned for later that evening was canceled after the fireworks were drenched by the rain. When wet, fireworks can be unpredictable and dangerous, so a decision was made to not risk lighting them. Organizers were still able to put on a daytime display after numerous professional grade fireworks were found to be dry enough for safe use. The WORD at Springtown praise band was unable to perform due to concerns about the water damaging their equipment. The event ended prematurely by 8 p.m.

Azle Area Ministerial Alliance President Alton Davis highlighted the event’s history and spoke about the day’s setbacks.
