Parker County celebrates 40 years of peaches
Parker County celebrated 40 years of the Parker County Peach festival July 12. The event occurs the second Saturday of July each year and was originally created in 1984. Today, the festival is managed by the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce staff with the assistance of the Peach Festival committee that includes Weatherford Police, Fire, city of Weatherford, Weatherford Independent School District and a volunteer board of directors. The festival’s mission and goals are to celebrate and highlight the rich agricultural heritage of Parker County by hosting a fun, family-friendly event while showcasing the local peach industry and featuring the talents of the community. Activities at the festival range from more than 200 arts, crafts, food and activity booths, two entertainment stages, two children’s areas plus rides, the Peach Pedal bike ride, a “42” Domino Tourney and the Peach food competition. The competition invites cooks of all ages to showcase their best peachinspired creations, whether it’s cobbler, pie, salsa or something uniquely creative.
The event takes up the entire Weatherford square ranging from Bridge Street all the way down to Oak Street.
