Council codifies short-term rentals ordinance

The city of Azle has joined the growing list of communities in North Texas to take action against short-term rentals. The city council first began talking about the issue over a year ago but had not managed to pass an ordinance until its July 1 meeting. The new ordinance does not ban STRs outright — as some Azle residents had hoped — but it does require property owners to obtain an operator’s license and special use permit.

Several community members joined in in the discussion during a public hearing for the issue in order to speak out against STRs and urge the council to consider stricter measures.

“It was an experience I don’t care to go through again.” Loyd Hancock said of living next to an STR “There was cars parked in the street.
