After years without a city administrator, the city of Reno has hired one. Former Brown County Presiding Judge Paul Lilly, who also holds a doctorate in forensic psychology and criminology, was formally appointed to the position by the city council July 14 at a regular council meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Vogle made a motion to select Lilly for the position. Mayor Hector Bas took a roll call vote to decide the matter. Vogle, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Ed Braun and council member Edward Payne voted to hire Lilly, while council members Kevin Vandenberg and Shelli Swift voted against the measure.

Citizen Jesse LaForest gave a citizen comment after the vote expressing disappointment.

“This is a sad day that you guys are pushing this through,” LaForest said. “This candidate that you are putting in office has associated himself with people that are tearing down the city.”
