New fire truck approved for purchase
The Azle Fire Department’s Quint 52 ladder truck was deployed to a recent fire on Main Street. The vehicle has served the city for more than a decade and is expected to remain a major par t of the fleet for at least another four years. ZACH FREEMAN | THE AZLE NEWS

It is official — the Azle Fire Department will see a new 100-foot ladder truck enter service. The catch: the truck will not join the AFD fleet for another four years.

Azle’s current 77-foot Ferrara Quint has been in use since December 2014 and in a few years will be beyond its optimal operational lifespan, city officials said. It was purchased for $750,000 and replaced a then 23-yearold vehicle. Changes to city codes and the recent construction of taller developments in Azle mean the the department’s Quint 52 may not have the reach it needs if worse comes to worst.

Council members unanimously voted to approve purchase of a new vehicle during a July 15 meeting. If the order is made before the end of the month, the city of Azle will lock in a price of $2,700,191.
