What I wish I knew Lessons you should learn before the world forces you to
As I’ve gotten older, I can look back and remember several times in my life where I felt unprepared — unprepared in school, unprepared for work or unprepared for life in general. Every one of those moments taught me something valuable. It’s the type of valuable knowledge you need later in life but it typically slips through the cracks when it comes to actually learning it. So, here’s a few things I wish I knew earlier that would have saved me some time and stress.
HOW TO CREATE A BANK ACCOUNT: When I got my first real job that required me to have a bank account for direct deposit, I had no clue what to do. I already had a bank account, but no one other than my father could put money in it because I’m only 16. Later, I asked my father, one, what a direct deposit is, and two, how to get a bank account that would allow me to receive them. He explained it to me and we went to the bank together to set up a new account. The person at the bank helping me set up my account asked me a number of questions, most of which I had to look at my father in hopes that he would answer it because I didn’t know how. Slowly but surely, we got to the end of the questions and my new bank account was set up. Now, for the day I am completely independent and in charge of my own banking, I know how to set up a bank account and I won’t stare blankly at my next boss when they ask me if I can receive direct deposits. So, learn how to set up your own bank account and know what it allows you to do so you don’t have to be like me and feel incredibly confused and a little bit stupid when you’re the only one in the room who doesn’t know what a direct deposit is and how to set up an account that can actually receive them.
