‘Portrait of a Hornet,’ ‘Protect the Nest’ highlight Azle ISD initiatives for new year

AZLE ISD

Back-to-school time is once again upon us. Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. The beginning of a school year brings with it a sense of anticipation and excitement. It’s a time of fresh beginnings, new challenges and countless opportunities for growth in both students and staff. Our dedicated educators and staff are back on campus, diligently preparing for the new school year, which kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 13.

This school year, two key initiatives that closely align with our continued commitment to our mission, vision and beliefs include expanding our Portrait of a Hornet work and what we are calling Protect the Nest. Our Portrait of a Hornet is a product of the work from our Texas Strategic Leadership partnership with the Texas Education Agency and Region 11 Educational Service Center, as well as a district steering committee and survey of parents and community members. It contains five characteristics that we want all Azle Hornets, from pre-K through 12th grade, to embody. Knowing this will look different for various age groups, the skills include communication, collaboration, passion, resilience and integrity. While we introduced this last fall, this year we plan to be more strategic with a video series to ensure we are embracing all students and staff.
