We started our year with a word — “community.”
It was central to our awards banquet held in February, where the theme was “Starry Night,” an homage to George H. W. Bush, who once said, “We are a nation of communities … a brilliant diversity spread like stars, like a thousand points of light in a broad and peaceful sky.”
Our members shared their own thoughts about what community means to them, including Azle Mayor Randa Goode, who said, “To me, community is an essential element to having a meaningful life. It is where we discover warmth, kindness and a true sense of belonging. It is a place where we learn to value our traditions and work together to make a better life for ourselves, our children, and future generations. In our community, we grow together, support each other, and create unforgettable memories with friends who become like family.”
