With the hustle and bustle of back to school, some Azle High School students go above and beyond to lend a helping hand. The Azle Lions Club and the Azle Independent School district partner each year to give away backpacks to local students in need.
Jamie Westbrook — who is involved in both organizations — said 15 students from Azle High School Student Council, PALs and cheerleaders showed up to the One Azle building last Wednesday morning to help load 213 backpacks filled with all the required school supplies for the year. They rode buses to 10 different campuses to unload and deliver packs to counselors who will distribute them accordingly. The backpacks are discrete and are left on a students’ desk for their first day back to school. This effort is carried out to take some of the pressure off families who need financial assistance with school supplies. Each year, the Azle Lions Club raises money for this effort by selling backpacks loaded with supplies in the weeks leading up to the start of school.
Monetary donations are also always welcome.
