City schedules public hearing, proposes increased tax rate

Azle residents will have a chance to speak their minds about how much they’ll be taxed by the city of Azle for 2025 at a public hearing beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18 at City Hall.

During a Aug. 4 meeting, the Azle City Council unanimously proposed a tax rate of almost 68 cents per every $100 in the assessed value of residential properties within city limits. This is an increase of about 6 cents — or 10% — from last year’s rate.

This increase reverses almost a decade of continuously decreasing tax rates for the city. In 2017, the city’s total tax rate sat at around 67 cents; it decreased a few cents each subsequent year until hitting a low of 57 cents for 2023.
