Lilly details plan to expand city and police vehicle fleet
Reno City Administrator Paul Lilly is going full speed with the city as he is introducing new programs, purchasing new vehicles and hiring new city employees. In a special city council meeting, Lilly’s first order of business was entering into a motor vehicle lease-purchase program for the city’s motor vehicle fleet.
A motor vehicle leasepurchase program is a financing arrangement that allows a city to purchase vehicles through a lease agreement with the intention to own them at the end of the lease. Lilly proposed to the council that the city would enter this lease that will not exceed $150,000 per fiscal year to purchase vehicles for the water department or public works, for example. Council member Kevin Vandenberg asked Lilly if this program, at this particular price point, is realistic for the city to enter.
