Weatherford man convicted of child abuse sentenced to 90 years

A man accused of repeated sexual abuse of a child was convicted by a Parker County jury and sentenced to a total of 90 years in a state penitentiary Friday, Aug. 15.

John Michael Gagnon, 57, was convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, sexual assault of a child, and indecency with a child Thursday. Aug. 14. The jury returned and sentenced Gagnon sentences of 50, 20, and 20 years respectively in the three cases Friday, Aug. 15. 43rd District Judge Craig Towson, who presided over the trial, ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.

“Under Texas law, due to the offense of conviction, the 50-year sentence is served without benefit of parole,” said District Attorney Jeff Swain. “We feel confident that Mr. Gagnon will spend the remainder of his life in prison. For repeatedly sexually abusing our child-victim, that’s what he deserves.”
