Councils hears from ESD 1 after BRFD cuts ties with city
After the Briar-Reno Fire Department officially announced it will no longer service the city of Reno for fire protection, council members held a workshop Sept. 4 to hear other options for fire protection. Parker County Emergency Services District No. 1 Fire Chief Stephen Watson was asked to present the services it could potentially provide if citizens vote to be annexed in the district and to answer any questions council members and citizens might have.
Watson said he received a call from Reno City Administrator Paul Lilly requesting a meeting with himself and the council to talk about a potential relationship. Watson also said a draft agreement was approved by the district’s legal counsel and board of commissioners which was presented to Lilly for review. The agreement would be an interlocal agreement, similar to others ESD 1 has in place for various reasons around the county. If approved by Reno council, the agreement would take effect Oct. 1 and could be terminated if Reno citizens vote to be annexed into the district.
