Reno approves rezoning for 603-acre development

The city of Reno officially approved the rezoning of 603 acres located east of South Reno Road and south of Walnut Creek from single family residential district 1, agricultural district and commercial district to planned development district. The decision comes after the Reno Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the council rezone the property. The new development is planned to be called “Hills of Walnut Creek” which will bring homes and other developments to this rezoned area.

Westwood Consulting Engineer Director Travis Clegg gave the city council a presentation of what the new development will look like. Clegg first pointed out there is no certificate of convenience and necessity on the property.

“What this means is there’s no city obligation to serve it with water and sewer,” Clegg said. “That allows us to do some things on the water and sewer side.”
