Lady Hornets split week to close first half of district play
Senior Tarleton State commit Jacqui McClain puts it down against Aledo on Pink Out Night.

The Azle Lady Hornets wrapped up the first half of District 5-5A play with a road victory at Granbury Tuesday, Sept. 30, taking the match in four sets: 25-14, 25-23, 20-25, 25-13. The win solidified Azle’s hold on second place in the district standings with a 5-1 record, trailing only Aledo (6-0).

Senior outside hitter Jacqui McClain, a Tarleton State commit, continued her dominant district campaign, recording 16 kills, 18 digs and three service aces. Kami Swain added eight kills, while Miley Massey paced the offense with 22 assists. The Lady Hornets were sharp from the service line, totaling 19 aces as a team in the victory.

Friday’s highly anticipated showdown against district-leading Aledo didn’t go as Azle hoped. On Pink Out Night and Junior High Night inside the Azle gym, the visiting Lady Bearcats took control early and swept the match in three sets, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20.
