The Azle Hornets took to the road Friday night, Oct. 3, to face Birdville, and despite an energetic start from sophomore running back King Stephens, the Hornets couldn’t keep pace in a 42–28 loss to the Hawks.
Stephens gave Azle early momentum, bursting through the Birdville defense for a 25-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Hawks, however, answered quickly and surged ahead 21–7 by the end of the opening frame.
In the second quarter, Stephens struck again, this time from 23 yards out to keep Azle in the fight. Stephens finished the night with 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
