The holidays are approaching, and that means it’s time to start planning meals, gifts and gatherings with family and friends. It’s also an ideal time to start thinking about ways to support your local businesses.
Studies by groups like Civic Economics have shown that money spent with small businesses, like those in Azle, fuels the local economy more than large retailers. For every $100 spent, more than $60 is recirculated back into the community.
During one of the chamber’s monthly luncheons, member Stu Lankford gave a demonstration of how this works. He handed $100 to a fellow member and explained that with that $100, the member would then go to a local restaurant to treat his employees to lunch. The restaurant owner then uses that $100 to pay a local company to service its HVAC system. The HVAC company uses that money to buy an appreciation gift at a small boutique on Main Street. And the pattern continues.
