While students were not in school Tuesday Oct. 14, CTE staff gathered for the biannual Advisory Council luncheon to go over its practicum programs and what’s in store for the next generation of young professionals.
The Career and Technical Education department at Azle High School is a unique program that offers 32 different areas of study, giving students the opportunity to earn their way toward sought-after certifications and post-secondary dual credit courses throughout the duration of their high school career. Those 32 areas of study are categorized into 16 career clusters such as health and science, engineering and cybersecurity — one of the most in-demand careers with worker shortages, according to Sherri Prather who teaches foundations of cybersecurity.
“Currently there’s about 65,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs just in the state of Texas … So, we are trying to get our students ready to go into the workforce immediately in cybersecurity because the demand is so high,” she said.
