A longtime retail fixture in Azle has been forced to close its doors after city officials declared the building unsafe for occupancy.

Bealls, which had been operating out of a portion of the former Kmart building on State Highway 199, was recently ordered to close after failing a building inspection last month.

According to David Hawkins, director of planning and development for the city of Azle, a formal inspection was conducted in September and revealed multiple issues within the building.
