The city of Reno has now canceled two consecutive city council meetings with no explanation, leaving residents with more questions than answers. This comes on the tails of the last meeting held Sept. 25 in which City Administrator Paul Lilly came under fire for questionable behavior, something that brought some of Mayor Hector Bas’ actions to light.
During that meeting, attendees heard statements from city workers and officials about an incident that occurred Sept. 12 in which Lilly appeared to be disoriented. During the course of that council meeting, Lilly provided a written statement provided by his doctor detailing a medical condition which explained the sequence of events that day. However, one question that lingered was the manner in which Bas handled the situation, not only because he put Lilly on paid administrative leave without counsel from the other members, but because without all the facts, he allegedly did so solely on the assumption that Lilly was under the influence. This did not sit well with some council members like Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Vogle who stated “I wish you would’ve allowed us, tell us what’s going on as soon as it happened so that we can do an emergency meeting and let us have a chance to have all the information and do our job.”
Once Lilly provided his statement to the council, he went into further detail explaining that he felt Bas’ move was in retaliation for him not acting on specific requests that Lilly felt were an abuse of his authority.
