Despite the rain over the weekend, visitors still made their way to the Fort Worth Nature Center ready for a day full of fun-filled yet educational activities, as the Trails & Treats event was held Saturday, Oct. 18.

At the gate attendees were handed a map that led the way to the day’s events, which was held at the Broadview Park site. Once there, food trucks lined the entrance way to the area where a multitude of exhibitors had their educational displays ready for visitors. Some of this year’s exhibitors included members from the Fort Worth Public Library, Native Plant Society of Texas and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Division, to name a few. While costumed little ones made their way to each booth, volunteers took their time answering questions and guiding them through their exhibitions. Exhibitions included one from the fisheries department, where fresh fish were splayed on a table, giving adults and children a close up look at a local catch.

The day gave visitors a chance to get up close and personal with not only freshwater fish, but also tarantulas, beetles, butterflies and a 4-year-old American alligator that little ones had the opportunity to pet — with safety measures in place, of course.
