The Azle Hornet football squad made the trip north Friday night, Oct. 17, to face off against the perennial powerhouse Denton Ryan Raiders. The Hornets were stung early and couldn’t recover, falling 44-10 in district play.
Despite the setback, the Hornets showed grit and flashes of promise. Sophomore running back King Stephens continued his stellar season, rushing for 111 yards against a stout Raider defense. Senior Auston Morgan added the team’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run, finishing the night with 67 yards on eight carries.
In the first quarter, kicker Colton Cook provided an early spark, drilling a 40-yard field goal to narrow the deficit to 7-3 before the Raiders pulled away with big plays in the second half.
