Charlene Elizabeth Bagby

Charlene Elizabeth (Mowell) Bagby of Azle departed this life into the next Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born Oct. 5, 1938, in Rule, Texas, in Haskell County.
Service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 3, in Bigger’s Funeral Chapel in Lake Worth, and was officiated by Dr. Gerry Lewis. Visitation was 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 2 Bigger’s Funeral Home. Charlene’s internment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth.
Pallbearers included Todd Bagby, Torre Bagby, Will Bagby, Cole Bagby, Carter Bagby and Taylor Clark.
Charlene was the only child of Melvin and Claudia (Scoggins) Mowell. Charlene’s father worked on a bridge gang for the AT&SF Railroad.
Some of her young life was spent living in a family railcar or sometimes a boarding house for railroad families all over West Texas or wherever her father happened to be working. Her early years were spent growing up in Rule, and she was a proud 1957 graduate of Rule High School. After high school, she attended business college in Abilene.
She later found work in Odessa and lived there until her father’s retirement from the railroad. She moved with her parents to Lake Worth in 1963. She met and married William “Bill” Marshall Bagby III Oct. 24, 1964. Bill and Charlene moved to 5328 Boat Club Road in 1966 and resided there until 2016.
Charlene worked at North Fort Worth Bank on N. Main Street in Fort Worth for several years; she also worked in the cashier’s department in the Sears Department Store at Ridgmar Mall.
Charlene was a long-time member of Eagle Mountain Baptist Church. She was a colorful woman and quite a character, through and through. She possessed a mischievous spirit and a sweet soul. She was quick to find humor and loved to laugh. She was a fierce supporter of her children and to those she held dear. Charlene loved her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, Elvis and watermelon. She loved dogs, gospel music, buttermilk and cornbread, baking, reading, singing and homemade ice cream. She also just loved being around people and had many lifelong friends.
The family wishes to thank Azle Manor nurses, techs and staff for loving Charlene as family and for taking such good care of her.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, William “Bill” Marshall Bagby III; her parents, Melvin and Claudia (Scoggins) Mowell; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, including her dear friend and cousin, Johnny Scoggins.
Charlene will be dearly missed, and her memory will live on with her sons and their wives, Todd and Rhonda Bagby and Torre and Amy Bagby; her grandchildren: Will Bagby, Randi (Bagby) Clark and husband, Taylor, Kaitlin (Bagby) Hiester and husband, Samuel, Cole Bagby and Carter Bagby; her great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Rylie Clark, Gwen and Quinn Hiester; her numerous cousins including Teresa Scoggins, Marc and Michelle Thane and Shalee Dunnam; and her very dear friend, Dawn Tyler of Northglenn, Colorado.
