Edward ‘Rusty’ Steel

Edward “Rusty” Earl Steel Sr., unexpectedly passed away Monday, June 23, in Fort Worth. He was 80 years old.

Visitation was 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro. A funeral service followed at 11 a.m. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro.

Rusty was born June 14, 1945, in Tarrant County, to George William Albert Steel and Edna Marie (Sellers) Steel. Rusty married Margaret Ann Mitchell July 5, 1963, in Fort Worth.

Rusty is a direct descendant of Lawrence Steel, one of the founders of Fort Worth. “Mason,” the Masonic bell, was brought to Fort Worth by Lawrence Steel in 1855 to hang in Hotel Steel. “Mason” was an integral part of the history of 1850s Fort Worth, and Rusty was very proud to share his family’s history. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Rusty is preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Leon, and sister, Georgia.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Ann Steel; their

children, Katrina Phillips and husband Dennis, Edward Steel Jr. and wife Erica, and Eddie Steel and wife Kimberly; grandchildren, Jennifer and Fabio Salcina, Ashley Boggs, Morgan Benham, Desirae Eden and partner Jimmy, Taylor Bint and husband Brice, Tyler Steel and wife Kathryn, Gamble Moore and fiancé Madison, Dalton Steel, Jake Pullig and wife JoAnna, and Megan Steel; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Spencer and Cecilia Fox; along with a plethora of nieces and nephews.
